SAN BERNARDINO
-- Junior All-American Samantha Middleborn and sophomore defensive specialist Jessica Girgle had much to celebrate on Friday night in Cal State San Bernardino's CCAA volleyball match against CSU Dominguez Hills.

The match was all about the Coyotes on this occasion as they went on to win 3-0 over the Toros (25-16, 25-15, 25-16), but in a pregame ceremony, both Middleborn and Girgle were able to share a part of their personal lives on CSUSB's Dig Pink Night with their moms -- Marilyn Middleborn and Misty Girgle, who are breast cancer survivors.

Both players paid tribute to their moms on the breast cancer awareness night as each gave her mom a commemorative pink-and-white volleyball signed by each Coyote member. The Coyotes also gave a ball to long-time athletic department equipment technician Joe Liscano, whose wife Maggie is battling the disease.

On the court, CSUSB played almost flawlessly in the 3-0 win -- its 12th of the season and 10th in conference play. It had 41 kills on just eight errors in 74 attacks, good for an attack percentage of .446 as the Coyotes won their 38th straight match at home and 28th straight conference home match.

Junior MB Megan Johnson led the way with eight kills on 12 attacks (.667) and All-American Jane Chafeh had seven kills on the night. All told, five players had five kills or more in the match that took a little more than an hour to play before a crowd of 565 in attendance at Coussoulis Arena.

Junior Mercedes Winchester and senior Nicole Moore each had six kills and attack percentages above .500 and fed off sets from sophomore Camille Smith, who had 25 assists.

Winchester was strong on the block with one solo and six block assists. Libero Kelcie Tolan was strong defensively with a team-high eight digs.

Denise Devine had a match-high 12 kills in the loss for CSUDH, now 2-17, 2-12.

The Coyotes complete their weekend with a match Saturday night against Cal State L.A. First serveis set at 7 p.m.
