Rene Leal

Rene Leal enters his second season at CSUSB in 2022-23, and currently serves as the outfield and first base coach. 

Since 2018, Leal has been a coach for the Atlanta Braves Scout Team that hosts some of the top high school players in California.

Leal graduated from Colton High School where he played baseball and football. He also played Semi-Pro baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers.

In 1999, Leal was among the 1st Americans inducted into the Australian Baseball Hall of Fame.

Before joining CSUSB, Leal coached at San Bernardino Valley College from 2003-2021. During his time there, he led the Wolverines to three consecutive Foothill Conference Championships. During their three-peat, the Wolverines saw four players selected in the MLB Draft. Leal served as the infield coach as well as the head recruiter at SBVC.

Before joining SBVC, Leal was the Assistant Coach at Redlands High School varsity baseball from 1990-2003. During Leal's time at Redlands, they won 4 Citrus Belt League Titles and had 9 players drafted to the MLB.

Since 2015, Rene has been in charge of player development for Easton Prime Travel Ball Club. The organization has over 90 Division 1 players committed to colleges and had two players selected in last year's MLB draft.

Rene Leal also oversaw player development with Phenom Baseball where in 2014, they were the only program to win USA Baseball in 14U, 15U, and 16U in Arizona USA West, Cary North Carolina 15U, and Jupiter Florida East USA. That team also had the 28th overall pick, Austin Wells, get drafted by the New York Yankees. There are currently five former players in the minor leagues. 

Leal was born in Bakersfield, CA now lives in Redlands, CA.

Hobbies include watching football, riding his Harley Davison motorcycle, and visiting Lake Havasu.
