Yotes Take Seconds to Win in OT Against Stanislaus State, 2-1

CSUSB travelled to Turlock and forced the Warriors into overtime

TURLOCK, Calif - The Yotes closed their weekend with a stop in Norcal to face the Stanislaus State Warriors. The Warriors were quick to score, but the Yotes forced overtime and took the win, 2-1.

Right at the jump of the first half, Stanislaus State put the pressure on the Yotes as they took 14 shots in the first half. The Warriors connected in the fourth minute of the match taking the score to 1-0. The scoreboard would remain stagnant for the majority of the first half with Carly Luna collecting four saves on the half. CSUSB's Vidalia Abarca scored in the 38th minute assisted by Alissa Torres. The score was tied going into the half, 1-1.

The second half saw a decline in statistics on both sides of the field for the Yotes and the Warriors. CSUSB took seven shots and had one save. The defensive front in Danielle Landrum, Katherine Walker, Alaina O'Connell, and Rebeca Cruz kept Stanislaus State to only two shots in the second half. The scoreboard remained the same and the game went into overtime, 1-1.

The Yotes would made quick work as a team, to push the offensive right away. With the defense spread, Torres once again found her teammate as Nathaly Losada Lucumi hit the game winning shot 18 seconds after the start of overtime. CSUSB took the win, 2-1.

"Today we finally got the result we have been working for" said coach Mark Peters. "It's difficult when you have a poor run of results to keep the desire to compete, but the team really showed their resilience today. After conceding another early goal it would have been easy for the players to put their heads down, but they continued to fight. I asked the girls to play for pride today and now I couldn't be more proud."

Losada Lucumi finished the match with four shots, two of them shots-on-goal. Katherine Walker took three shots on the game and Jocelyn Galvan took two. Luna finished the match with five saves.

The Yotes next match is at 12:30pm on Friday, Oct. 29th at Premier Field against Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Live stats will be available here. Streaming is available on ccaanetwork.com.
