Frank Daroma Named First Team All-American

Brandon Sangbarani First Team All-Region

KANSAS CITY – The United Soccer Coaches have released their 2019 All-American and All-Region honorees.  CSUSB freshman Frank Daroma has been honored as a First Team All-American and All Region selection, and senior Brandon Sangbarani was a First Team All-Region honoree.

Daroma, who was the CCAA Freshman of the Year, a midfielder, scored four goals with five assists this season, playing in 19 matches and starting the final 18.  He fired 35 shots with over half of them being on goal.  The kinesiology major scored three game-winners with over 1400 minutes played.

Daroma is the fourth All-American in program history and for the first time the Yotes have had back-to-back years with an All-American (Danny Ortiz, 2018).  Daroma joins Tanner Olinger (2010) as the lone first team selections in school history.

He was especially critical in the Yotes' historic run through the NCAA Tournament, recording a goal and assist in the third round win over the Colorado School of Mines.  Both of his shots in the season-ending quarterfinal loss were on target.

"I'm thankful to be recognized for all my hard work," Daroma said.  "I'd like to thank my teammates, coaches, and everyone who's gotten me to this point."

Sangbarani was a senior leader for the Yotes during this memorable season.  An All-CCAA selection, he anchored a defense that pitched 12 shutouts and allowed .78 goals per game.  He started in 21 matches, scored three goals, and added five assists on a total of just six shots.  The business administration majors' ability to throw the ball into the box from almost any throw-in location has been a game-changer for the Yotes.

His play was crucial too in the NCAA run, as he scored the lone goal in the 1-0 second round win at Cal Poly Pomona.  He added a shot on goal in the semifinal loss at Cal State LA.

The Yotes wrapped their season last week after the aforementioned run, fueling the program to set their sights on similar heights in 2020.
