SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State San Bernardino took on rival Cal Baptist and a hearty wind Friday and came up short against both as the Coyotes opened the 2012 season.
A three-run fourth inning put the Lancers in control in the opener as they won 6-2, and CBU earned the sweep with a 6-1 victory.
The Coyotes will play in their annual Alumni Game on Saturday that begins at 11 a.m.

The Coyotes scored both of their runs via balks against Lancers' RHP Emma Holden, but the Lancers took control wtih a three-run fourth and a two-run fifth.
Senior RHP
Courtney Wilhelms threw four innings and took the loss. She struck out four, walked four and allowed four runs, but just one earned.
Alex Mitchell,
Jamie Leffingwell,
Britney Butler and
Victoria Lievanos all singled for the Coyotes, who had two runs on four hits and stranded eight runners.
Carly Land threw three innings of relief. She struck out four, walked two and did not allow an earned run.

Mitchell, Leffingwell and Butler each had hits, but the Coyotes could only score one run in the nightcap.
Butler hit a RBI-single that scored Mitchell for the only run. Mitchell reached base on a walk.
Land threw 4 1/3 innings and got the loss. She struck out four, walked four and gave up six hits, six runs (four earned).
