REDLANDS -- The Coyotes' water polo team opened the 2012 season Sunday participating at the Redlands Mini.

Led by junior Misty Vu's three goals, the Coyotes lost the opener to Whittier, 15-10. Vu added another goal on the day in the Coyotes' 11-3 loss to Redlands.

The Coyotes are off until this weekend when they play at Cal Baptist on Saturday.

Down 8-7 through two periods, the Poets outscored the Coyotes 4-0 in the third quarter and went on to earn the win.

Sophie Smith added two goals, while freshman McKenzie Kelly, junior Kayla Barrow, senior Meghan McCarthy and senior Jasmine Duran each added  a goal.

The Coyotes held their own in the match against the perennial strong Bulldogs. Down 3-2 in the first quarter, CSUSB was outscored 8-1 down the stretch.

Vu, Shelle Kocher and Barrow each scored for the Coyotes. Freshman Madison Morris had nine saves in goal.
