Coyotes Fourth in Commissioner's Cup

Cal State San Bernardino ended the 2009-10 athletics season with 31 points

LA JOLLA, Calif. — For the third time in four year's Cal State San Bernardino has finished fourth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Commissioner's Cup.

The Commissioner's Cup is presented in association with Apple Computer and is awarded to the CCAA member institution with the highest aggregate ranking in eight of the CCAA's 13 championship sport offerings. The winning institution receives a laptop computer and glass trophy.

The CSUSB athletics program had one of the most successful seasons in school history, finishing with 31 points, just 1.5 points above its 29.5 best in the 2007-08 athletics' season.

For the fifth consecutive year, UC San Diego was the winner of the Commissioner's Cup. UC San Diego totaled 19 points to finish ahead of Chico State, which finished second with 20 points. It was the closest finish in the five-year history of the program. The previous closest came following the 2007-08 athletics season when the Tritons edged the Wildcats by 2.5 points.

UC San Diego captured CCAA titles in baseball, women's basketball and women's tennis, and finished second in women's cross country, women's volleyball, men's track and field, women's track and field, and tied for second in women's soccer.

Chico State won conference crowns in men's cross country, women's cross country, men's track and field and women's track field. The Wildcats finished third in women's basketball and were fourth in baseball and softball.

Cal Poly Pomona finished third with 25.5

An institution's Commissioner's Cup ranking is calculated using its top two league finishes in the fall, winter and spring sports seasons, as well as the highest two remaining finishes, regardless of season. An institution's numerical finish for team sports is determined by regular season standings, and individual sports finishes are determined by the finishes of the season-ending championship event.

Team sports are soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, baseball and softball. Individual sports are cross country, men's golf and track & field. Institutions winning the conference tournament in the sports of men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball and baseball deduct one (1) point from their regular season finish in those respective sports.
