Cal State San Bernardino is down to their last game of the season

BAKERSFIELD — Cal State University San Bernardino’s Linzie Quist and Misty Vu each scored two goals against in a 10-5 loss to Santa Clara in CSUSB’s third match of the Western Water Polo Association Championships.

Santa Clara got the scoring started with a goal about half way through the first quarter, but Vu tied it up with her first tally less than a minute later. The quarter ended in a 1-1 tie, but the Broncos took control in the second.

Santa Clara scored four straight goals to take a 5-1 lead before Quist made it 5-2 going into halftime.

Broncos jumped out to take a 6-2 lead in the third, but Quist answered to make it 6-3. The back-and-forth action continued, as Vu and Kaitlin Hartman matched Bronco goals and held it to a three-goal deficit late in the fourth, 5-8.

However, Santa Clara put it away with two goals late in the game. Bryanna Burns had 14 saves in the loss. Two Broncos, Rochelle Stowe and Caitlin Espe, had three goals in the game.

CSU San Bernardino will play Sonoma State at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, for seventh place in the tournament.
