TURLOCK — #Gene Webster Jr.# and Cal State San Bernardino are hitting their stride just in time to close out the regular season. The senior from San Bernardino tied his career low with a 63 and nearly matched his season-low 196 he shot at the Coyote Classic with a 198 to capture the individual title at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational.

The Coyotes finished on top of the leader board for the first time this season, shooting an unbelievable 280 in the final round. It was the lowest round in the invitational by seven strokes. CSUSB had some company at the top as it tied with No. 10 Cal State Stanislaus.

Grand Canyon finished third with an 876 while No. 4 Chico State finished fourth at 877.

The 17-team field was littered with top 25 teams. No. 22 Cal State Monterey Bay finished fifth, No. 20 Sonoma State finished sixth and No. 16 Western Washington finished seventh.

Webster shot 18 under par, shooting a 68, 67 and 63 on the par 72 course. It was the second time this year he won a tournament. Joe Alldis finished strong with another 69 to finish in the top 10 for the third time this year with a 215 to leave him in fifth. Thomas Chu finished in a tie for 26th with a 223 overall score after shooting a final round 72. Kenny Pigman shot a 76 as he took four strokes off his first round and three off his second, finishing with a 235 to leave him in 66th. Nick Kelley rounded out the team with a 244 in which he tied for 81st.

Cal State Dominguez Hills' Ryan Indovina was Webster's closest competition shooting a 210 with three straight 70s. His teammate Cavin McCall was one shot behind in third with a 211.

The Coyotes now get set for the California Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Championship next week. CSUSB will travel to Paso Robles to play at the Hunter Ranch Golf Course for the CCAA title Monday and Tuesday. Live scoring will be available through gocaa.org.
