SAN BERNARDINO — One streak came to an end Monday afternoon while another one continued.
Janay Palicte and
Christina Torres, who combined to win their last five doubles matches, finally met their match in Anita Athavale and Katie Mulloy for No. 15 UC San Diego who beat the tandem, 8-2.
Isabella Frazcek though pushed her singles winning streak to five in a row with a 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 win over Mulloy at No. 4 as Cal State San Bernardino fell 7-2 to the Tritions. Fraczek won the only singles match while
Brittany Choate and
Kara Jenkins won the only doubles match, 8-5, over Krystal Mizuguchi and Katie Barth at No. 3. It was just nine days ago that the roles were reversed as the same UCSD team handed the same CSUSB pair an 8-4 loss.
After rain pushed back the match for more than an hour total, the match started with singles instead of doubles. Taskeen Bains took care of Choate, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 while Athavale defated Palicte in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2. At No. 3 Samantha Yeung downed Torres, 6-3, 6-4 and Mizuguchi beat
Allison Brooks, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. Katie Barth and Jenkins went the full three sets with Barth winning the first 6-3 before Jenkins tied it with a 6-4 win in the second set. Barth put it away in the final set, winning 6-3.
In the other doubles match, Bains and Yeung beat Fraczek and Brooks, 8-4 at No. 1.
