CSUSB outscored Azusa Pacific 8-2 in the third quarter to put away the game

SAN BERNARDINO --- Nine different players scored goals for Cal State San Bernardino in a 13-9 win over Azusa Pacific.

The Coyotes (12-5) trailed 5-4 late in the second quarter, but an Emily Hove goal tied it at 5-5 with 1:39 left in the half.

It was all CSUSB in the second half as the Coyotes outscored the Cougars 8-4. All eight goals in the second half came in the third quarter. Lenzie Quist made it 6-5 just 13 seconds into the third quarter and a Marilyn Doughty goal made 7-5 with 6:37 left. Ashley de Jonckheere scored the third goal in two minutes for the Coyotes as CSUSB took an 8-5 lead.

Hove scored the fifth straight goal, going back to the second quarter, for the Coyotes to put them up 9-5 before APU finally broke the string of goals with 4:40 left in the third. Kayla Barrow, Katelyn Jessen and Jennifer Goetz combined for three straight goals as CSUSB climbed out to a 12-6 lead before Shelle Kocher scored the final goal for the Coyotes with 13 seconds left in the third quarter to make it 13-7.

APU added two goals in the fourth.

Quist, Hove and Goetz all scored a pair of goals while Misty Vu and Doughty each had a trio of assists. Doughty also posted four steals.

Bryanna Burns also notched 14 saves in the win.

The Coyotes now play Bucknell and UC Santa Barbara, Sunday, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
