Brandon Brown's impact on the Cal State San Bernardino men's basketball team since he was activated in mid-December is one reason why the 6-7 junior was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association player of the week for the week ending Jan. 3.
Brown averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game as the Coyotes swept past Cal State Stanislaus, 92-68, and Chico State, 75-57, to gain a tie for the lead in the CCAA at 3-1.
He made 53.8 percent of his field goal tries while averaging 27 minutes per game.
In the win over Stanislaus, Brown had 16 points and 10 rebounds -- his third double-double in four games since being activated for the CCAA-Pacific West Shootout in Las Vegas on Dec. 20-21.
Against Chico State, Brown had 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
In his four outings, the New Orleans native has averaged 18.8 points and 11 rebounds per game with 11 blocked shots and five steals. He is shooting 55 percent from the field.
The team is 3-1 since he came on board at the end of the Fall Quarter. The only loss was a 76-71 decision to Grand Canyon in Las Vegas.
CSUSB will try to extend its win streak on Thursday and Friday, hosting Inland Empire rival Cal Poly Pomona at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and CCAA co-leader UC San Diego at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
